Round 7 Mallory Park - 27 May 2001

Round 7 saw the cars move to Mallory Park Race Circuit in Leicestershire. With a damp circuit for practice the cars went out. Mallory has not been Robb's favourite circuit having had two bad accidents here in previous years. It was Phil Latchford who put his Rover on pole in the class and Dennis Bunning's Honda CRX was on pole position overall. Robb managed to qualify second in class just ahead of main rival Nick Reynolds. Just over one tenth of a second split the first three Rovers with an interesting race in prospect.

With the circuit now dry the cars set off for the race. Robb made a good start demoting Phil Latchford to second then Nick Reynolds pushed him to third. Robb and Nick spent the first lap absolutely side by side. As they started lap two, Nick was hit by Steve Meli going into Gerrards for the second time which lost him vital ground. Robb had a commanding lead in the Rovers and started to catch the leading cars. He moved up to fifth overall and with about three laps to go, got into third as Dennis Bunning and Steve Alderton came together at Gerrards. As they crossed the line, Vince Pain took the win in his Honda closely followed by Nick Howell in the Proton. Robb came in third overall and first in class to clinch his seventh win of the season. Nick Reynolds held onto second in the Rovers and Richard Gane third. Team mate, Danny Mills, had another struggling race, finishing ninth in class. A day to forget for him and look forward to the future as his car was to be prepared by another team.
